Congregate Meal Assistants, Senior Centers
As a Congregate Meals Assistant, the goal is to provide freshly prepared meals for our local elders. This volunteer role requires an individual who is organized and willing to provide the time to help prepare and pack meals, set tables, and clean-up, while providing older adults with comfort and a friend to talk to! The responsibilities of this position include packing meals to assist the Meal Site Manager at a local congregate meal site. Some volunteer will assist with serving prepared hot meals at community congregate dining sites, setting tables, helping with clean-up, helping with registration, interacting with older adults, and observing safety precautions with food handling.
Mobile Market Assistant, The Open Door
The Open Door Mobile Market program provides eligible elders with up to 20 pounds of fresh produce and protein choices at no cost, as well as nutrition education and outreach. The produce is grown locally and purchased wholesale or is acquired from the Greater Boston Food Bank.
Volunteers assist at a local senior center one morning each month to assist with sorting and organizing food in bags for distribution. In addition, volunteers may help with registration, sign in, as well as set-up and clean-up.
Volunteers must be dependable, able to follow directions, work independently, and be able to lift food items that will be distributed and placed in bags.
Mobile Market volunteers typically help one or two mornings each month.
Call Center Grocery Helpers, The Open Door
Volunteers assist The Open Door's clients with placing online grocery orders over the phone. Position requires strong phone communication skills and computer literacy. All volunteers will be trained for the position before they are expected to work a shift independently.
Opportunities are available M-Th at the following times: 9-11am, 11-1pm, 1-3pm.
Share your time for a specific event that is being hosted by SeniorCare, a local non-profit, or local Senior Center. Help is needed year round with collecting food at Holiday Food Drives, assisting with holiday meal deliveries, helping at a community holiday meal or outdoor BBQ, and much more.
