What is RSVP?
RSVP is one of the oldest volunteer networks in the nation for people age 55 and older. Established by Congress in 1971, AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP now engages more than 296,000 people age 55 and older in a diverse range of volunteer activities. There are more than 650 active RSVP Chapters across the United States. Volunteers provide independent living and elder services, tutor children, renovate homes, teach English to immigrants, assist victims of natural disasters, recruit and manage other volunteers, and serve their communities in many other ways. RSVP volunteers choose how, where, and how often they want to serve, with commitments ranging from one or two hours to 40+ hours per week.
Our program has been locally sponsored by SeniorCare Inc. since 2001, and functions as a volunteer placement agency for SeniorCare and many other area non-profit partner agencies. RSVP has more than 350 active volunteers.
Who can join RSVP?
Anyone who is 55 years of age or older can join RSVP Volunteers of the North Shore. There are no membership fees, dues or meetings to attend. Once you have met with the RSVP staff and have joined RSVP, you will be placed in a volunteer assignment with a non-profit agency on the North Shore that will utilize your time available combined with your interests, skills and talents to assist them to address important needs.
What if I am under the age of 55?
Potential Volunteers, age 18 and over, can sign up to volunteer. Because AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP is for volunteers age 55 and over, we do not count your volunteer hours towards the federal grant. However, your volunteer hours are still counted and help show the impact all volunteers are making throughout our community.
Is there a required commitment?
Commitment varies for every program. Volunteers may choose long-term service in one program or may choose to respond to short-term needs. You may give as little as 1-2 hours per week or as many as 40 hours/ week. Your time and service is valuable, needed and appreciated!
